Location: In Enfield Public Schools, Enfield, CT
Job Type: Part-Time Hourly Non-Exempt
Pay: $15.69/hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Hours:
After School 2:45 PM – 6:15 PM
Before School—6:45 AM – 8:45 AM

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Manager of Operations and head teacher, the team leader provides a high quality of education and care for school age students; assisting in daily classroom supervision, including outdoor play activities using positive discipline techniques to ensure a safe and healthy environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with students acting as a role model.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff, students and parents.
  • Document all incidents, issues or behavior management actions effectively on daily logs.
  • Assist in daily classroom supervision, including outdoor activities using positive discipline techniques to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculums as well as the timely submission of all forms and reports.
  • Use knowledge of child development to assess and plan for individual children.
  • Supervise parents and other classroom visitors.
  • Assist in the practice and documentation of monthly fire drills, lock down drills and other emergencies.
  • Assists in the preparation of materials, equipment, and information for the daily program, taking daily attendance and snack time.
  • Use appropriate food handling, sanitation, and OSHA procedures at all times.
  • Maintain classroom and storage materials in neat, orderly, and safe manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of child and family information.
  • Supervise a group of children.
  • Assist in maintaining all center policies and OEC state regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience

  • Have experience working with children under 13 years of age, preferably in an organized setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of school age development.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must have required certification in pediatric CPR, first aid, medication administration, and epi-pen administration or obtain in a timely manner.
  • Must submit fingerprints and background check.
  • Must be available to work specific hours from 6:45 am to 8:45 am or 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday when school is in session and for all training dates.
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times, provide verbal direction.
  • Ability to move around a room and quickly react to safety issues (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).
  • Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).
  • Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, crouching.
  • Ability to lift young children and objects up to 40 lbs.
